How Your Body Builds New Muscle

How Your Body Builds New Muscle

If you’re like most people out there, then you would like to have bigger, stronger, and more well-defined muscles.

There ain't no shame in that.

But have you ever wondered how your body actually creates new muscles in the first place?

Everyone loves to talk about the best exercises to grow muscles, but nobody talks about how your body actually goes about building those muscles.

So we decided to do some research into exactly what causes your muscles to grow and how you can go about maximizing your muscle growth when you work out.

How Your Muscles Grow:

It turns out that all muscular growth is determined by the amount of stress that you pit against your muscles.

In order for your muscles to grow big and strong, you need to use them.

It sounds simple because it is.

The more you use your muscles, the stronger they will become. The less you use your muscles, the weaker they will become.

If you are trying to maximize your muscle growth during your workouts then there are three main mechanisms that you should focus on: muscle tension, muscle damage, and metabolic stress.

1. Muscle Tension

Muscle tension is simply the amount of stress that you are placing upon your muscles.

In order for your muscles to grow, you have to apply more stress than what your body or muscles have previously adapted too.

(AKA: You need to lift heavier weights more often than your body is used to.)

This additional tension on the muscle helps to cause changes in the chemistry of the muscle, allowing for various growth factors to come into play such as satellite cell activation.

Satellite cells are cells that essentially lie dormant in your muscles. Upon activation--due to mechanical stress (lifting weights)--they instantly become muscle cells and aid in the process of building new strands of muscle.

Increasing the amount of muscular tension your muscles experience also boosts the mind-muscle connection between your muscles and your nervous system.

This boost in mind-muscle connection in turn helps you lift heavier weights easier as your nerves and your muscles become more "in-sync" and used to operating under varying degrees of stress.

2. Muscle Damage

Muscle damage literally refers to the amount of damage you cause your muscles during a workout.

Have you ever heard the saying, “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.”?

Well, in regards to your muscles, that saying is pretty accurate.

When you workout hard and force a lot of stress upon your muscles, your muscle fibers begin to rip apart. This happens on a microscopic level.

Afterwards, your body repairs those damaged muscle fibers through a cellular process where it fuses broken muscle fibers together to form new muscle fibers.

Those repaired muscle fibers then increase in number and thickness leading to you having bigger and stronger muscles when they are finished repairing themselves.

This is why it is very important to get adequate and proper rest after training hard, so your body can repair itself and GROW.

3. Metabolic Stress

Metabolic stress is basically the scientific explanation behind the “gym pump” that you experience during a particularly intense workout.

Metabolic stress causes cell swelling around your muscle, which helps to contribute to muscle growth without necessarily increasing the size of the muscle cells.

This is from the addition of muscle glycogen, as well as water and nutrients rushing into your muscles, which helps to swell the muscle, along with aiding in connective tissue growth.

This type of growth is known as sarcoplasmic hypertrophy and it is the other way that people can grow bigger and more full looking muscles.

What it basically all boils down to is this...

Lift Heavy And Lift Often To Maximize Your Muscle Growth!

Putting your muscles under stress is the only way that they are going to grow big and strong.

If you want to maximize your muscle growth then you should be pushing yourself in your workouts, adding weight, adding reps, and adding stress onto your muscles.

That's how winning is done.

Now you may be thinking to yourself that this sounds all well and good, but building an impressive, muscular, physique must take a really long time, right?

Yes and no.

Yes, you are going to need to eat right and train hard CONSISTENTLY if you ever want to build the body of your dreams.
